In Exploring Digital Technologies, students develop creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through hands-on, real-world projects that integrate design thinking and digital tools.
Year 5 students explore ethical and sustainable food production by tackling a real-world challenge — designing a vertical herb garden for the school kitchen. Through research into sustainability, food systems, and ethical considerations like water use and recycling, students develop creative garden designs that meet the school’s needs. Using digital tools such as Minecraft and Tinkercad, they apply design thinking to bring their ideas to life and present persuasive pitches in a Shark Tank–style showcase. The project highlights teamwork, innovation, and persuasive communication skills.
Year 6 students will collaboratively design and refine an interactive virtual school tour using Minecraft Education. Throughout the term, they will enhance their builds with signs, NPCs, and simple coding to guide users and create engaging, accessible experiences. Students will apply computational thinking, give and respond to constructive feedback, and focus on user navigation and visual design. The project culminates in a presentation to an authentic audience, where students showcase their creativity, problem-solving, and understanding of audience needs in digital environments.
Together, these projects empower students to think critically, design innovatively, and apply digital technologies to real-world challenges.
